Community Involvement and Social Responsibility

When the company and staff benefit, the community and the organization, organizations, or specific segments of the community benefit from their community involvement efforts and overall actions. Business is demonstrating social responsibility.

Companies are no longer just expected to be profitable and increase shareholder value, it is important to contribute to and improve the welfare of society and the environment. In the hiring process, many potential employees ask pointed questions regarding the company’s community involvement and social responsibility. This has become especially important, and in many cases, it can be a determining factor in the acceptance of a job offer.

Socially responsible companies adopt policies that promote the well-being of society and the environment while lessening negative impacts on them. Companies can act responsibly in many ways:

Consumers are more actively looking to buy goods and services from socially responsible companies, thus improving and impacting their profitability. Community Involvement builds organizational relationships, ensures company visibility, and improves brand awareness.

Effective community involvement benefits the company and their employees. The company receives not only the appreciation of the organization or organizations they are supporting but increases their visibility and secures a competitive advantage over other companies. Using engagement to achieve company goals aligns engagement initiatives with company goals. Companies that are strong advocates of community involvement and social responsibility have higher levels of achievement and success than companies that are not actively supporting their communities.

In addition, the workforce is more involved, more loyal, and is more concerned about the success of the company – they are a part of the social responsibility of the company and generally will have more pride in the work they deliver.
